Starting off
In the both “Aladdin” movies they had great songs, great plot, and a great overall moral. Even though they were both very similar, there were some visible differences. For example, in the animation, Jamar seems much older than in the live action. There were also a few costume and song edits, but overall both great films. These are just a few of the bat-eye differences to point out and notice.
Dalia
In the animation, Genie is friends with Aladdin and is only ever seen being close with him. In the live action however, over time he started to become attracted to Jasmine’s handmaiden, Dalia. She was not a character in the original movie. This was a nice surprising change in the live action. It’s sweet that they added her in to support not only Jasmine, but also to gradually fall in love with Genie.
Jasmine
Jasmine also had a few scenes in the live action that were not included in the animation. For example, her song Speechless. It was a very empowering song, talking about how she will not be ignored. I found myself drawn to that scene and how deep the meaning was. It was a very powerful and beautiful message for women in general.
Aladdin
Aladdin, in both movies, was very similar. He was very cheery and optimistic even when he was put in a tight or difficult position. It was very refreshing to see him find a way, or a solution out of each obstacle. In both versions he was seen as kind and compassionate to others around him. It was comforting to see that his personality did not change, even though some characters did.
Genie
Genie was also a very fun and cheeky figure throughout both films. Appearance wise not much changed with him other than the fact that he got some more jewelry. Apart from that he mainly did the same things in both films like help Aladdin and have the dream of someday getting his freedom. In addition getting his freedom in the end, he also finds love.
Summing up
Overall, both these films were very well made and each of the differences had its own significance and added a lot to the stories. I really enjoyed watching “Aladdin” and seeing different cultures in day to day life. Seeing each character’s plot build up throughout the movie was very nice and interesting to see. I would totally recommend both versions!
