This week I tested which muffins taste better, boxed mix or homemade. I will judge not only off taste, but also off price and the amount of time it takes to make.
The first muffins I made were the boxed ones. I used Betty Crocker Chocolate Chip Muffin Mix. The mix cost about $3 and only needed three ingredients. You needed water, oil, and 2 eggs. The batter came together very well and wasn’t very lumpy. It only took about 5 minutes to come together. I put muffin wrappers in the tin and put the muffins in the oven for 11 minutes. They came out very soft and fluffy. The taste was very good and they had a nice sweetness to them. I give them a 7/10.
The next muffins I made were the homemade ones. I got the recipe from The Beach House Kitchen. The recipe used flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, light brown sugar, milk, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla, and chocolate chips. Most people would have these ingredients in their house and the batter took about 10 minutes to make. I put them in the oven for about 10 minutes and let them cool. They were very dense and not as sweet as the boxed ones. This might have been my fault because I might have over mixed the batter, but they just weren’t as good as the boxed ones. I give them a 5/10.
Overall, the boxed muffins are more worth your time because they are easier to make, taste better, and have a better texture.
