The Nintendo Switch offers an impressive selection of games for players to enjoy, and there’s no denying that. However, Splatoon manages to stand out from the crowd, the game with a compelling tone and story for what it is about. The games stems from two other games, Splatoon 1 and 2, but the focus of this column will be on the newest game, Splatoon 3.
The game Splatoon 3 starts off with a customization screen which offers you the option to become of the two species in the game, an Inkling or Octoling. As you click on, you can then further customize your character’s eye color, hairstyle, etc. Once you finish, you are then presented with the tutorial screen, and are taught all of the mechanics of the games — how to shoot, jump, turn your screen, paint walls, turn into squid form, and more.
After completing all the tutorials, you will be sent to the game’s starting area, Splatsville, and you can choose from the menu to enter wherever you’d like. You can enter to the Lobby, which takes you to turf war, and shooter style game where the goal is to be the team to paint the most amount of area, You can also enter to The Square, which is where you are from the start. Alterna, which takes you to the games story mode. Other entry points include The Shoal, which is used for local play, and Grizzco, where you can play a game called Salmon run, the goal of which is to defeat enemies and collect golden eggs, meeting quotas to reach before the timer ends.
If you wish to expand on what the game has to offer, you can purchase the Side Order DLC costing $29.99” bringing new and unique levels with a compelling storyline on the table.
