Moe’s and Chipotle both have their own take on similar dishes. Both of these companies come from Mexican backgrounds as they serve Mexican food. While they both offer many of the same dishes such as burritos, quesadillas, and much more, today we will be looking at both companies’ bowls, which I taste tested this week, so let’s compare them.
At Moe’s they offer an 8 oz. bowl with prices that range from $11.79 to $17.99, depending on the ingredients (mainly the chosen proteins). They provide a wide range of ingredients as to what to put in your bowl. These ingredients include three types of protein, chicken, ground beef, and steak. Many add-ins like black beans, pinto beans, seasoned rice, cilantro rice, cheese, guacamole, corn pico, pico de gallo, shredded lettuce and sour cream. Included with all meals, is a free side of chips. I ordered my bowl with chicken, seasoned rice, black beans, lettuce, guacamole, pico de gallo, and cheese. Each ingredient blended together perfectly leaving me wanting more. The price of my bowl was $11.79 which isn’t very cheap but I would say it’s worth it. They do put a gracious amount of ingredients in the bowl, and mine was overflowing, so although it’s pricey, I would say it’s worth it and rate it an 8/10.
At Chipotle they offer two different sizes in bowls, a small which is typically 24 oz. and a large which is usually 32 oz. The prices range between $12.75 and $19.99, which is already more expensive than Moe’s. Chipotle also has a variety of proteins such as chicken, steak, carnitas, sofritas, and barbacoa. Other ingredients include white rice, brown rice, black beans, pinto beans, fajita veggies, cheese, tomato salsa, sour cream, guacamole, and lettuce. Chipotle definitely has a few more ingredient options than Moe’s does, but one big difference between them is that chips are not included. If ordering chips, the price starts at $2.25 and increases when ordered with salsa, guacamole, queso, or any dipping sauce. At Chipotle, I ordered my bowl with chicken, brown rice, black beans, tomato salsa, lettuce, guacamole and cheese, trying to order the equivalent of what I ordered at Moe’s. At Chipotle my bowl cost $12.75 which is also a little pricey, but they did fill up my bowl with ingredients considerably. While I did enjoy how the ingredients tasted mixed together, I felt like there was a taste of lime and seasoning of spice in each bite which I didn’t really enjoy. It did taste good but with the price, and disappointment of having to pay for chips, I would rate this meal a 7/10.
After all, I would say I enjoyed the Moe’s bowl more than the Chipotle’s bowl. My meal at Moe’s was at a lower price and came with a complementary side of chips while Chipotle did cost more money and I had to pay to indulge in chips. I enjoyed my meals from both venues, but overall would give the win today to Moe’s. In the end I think the fact that chips were free at Moe’s really convinced me that the price point was worth it. I enjoyed both meals but for today’s Dish Duels, Moe’s takes the cake!
