Every year in High Schools all across America, there is one week filled with fun, games, and majesties. This is Homecoming week. While during the week there are usually lots of fun assemblies, pep rallies and other exciting events, there is one event that embodies and finishes the week. This is Homecoming Court.
The first Homecoming Court is said to have taken place in the 1920s as schools began to make the event more formal. To be considered for court, students are nominated based on who of their peers they think should be honored. Over time this event turned into a very glamorous and exciting part of the whole week. If you were nominated, you would make your debut during halftime of the Homecoming football game.
Over the years, the idea of Homecoming Court made a major breakthrough. Many schools started to make this event more inclusive, so instead of having just one King and Queen, they came up with the idea to have court members, or representatives from all classes. This made everyone feel included and welcomed.
The winners of the SJN 2024 Homecoming were Kennedi Seeber and Logan Baratta. Congratulations to them!
