What is the Mr Neumann Competition?
Mr. Neumann is a yearly homecoming tradition here at St. John Neumann. Every year during homecoming week, we have different pep rallies such as powder puff volleyball, football pep rally, powderpuff cheer pep rally and finally the Mr. Neumann Competition. The boys compete in a series of fun and entertaining games against each other to fight for the title of “Mr Neumann.”
What challenges does the competition consist of?
There are a variety of different challenges. First they have to walk the red carpet for their introduction to the panel of judges and the whole school. Then the games begin. This year there was a game where they had to hold a plank until a certain number of competitors got out. Then they moved on to limbo, which was a tough one for the tall boys! They continued on to a dance off which really got the crowd amped-up. After that it was a race to finish eating a fruit roll up, without using their hands! After that they moved on to pickup lines, because of course, Mr. Neumann has to have “rizz”. Finally it was down to two finalists.
What does the winner get?
As of now the winner receives high fives, a crown and bragging rights. But who knows, maybe in the future the winner will get money or a free skip school card!
How many people usually compete, and is it all grades? If so, do they all compete in the same games?
Usually there are about 25 or more contestants. This year there were more than 30! Every grade does compete in the same games. Normally the upperclassmen tend to win.
Is Mr. Neumann entertaining?
Yes, Mr. Neumann is very entertaining. This pep rally is usually a school favorite among the other pep rallies. Maria Almeoda, a sophomore here at St. John Neumann, tells us how she enjoys this pep rally the most. “Yea, it’s really fun to watch and always has everyone smiling and laughing. I love sitting with my friends during this and enjoying it all together.”
How does the Mr. Neumann competition promote school spirit?
The Mr. Neumann competition promotes school spirit not only among the contestants, but also among the students watching. It creates something to bond over with peers and friends around you, and gets you riled up to cheer each other on. Between the contestants it creates a sense of competition, but it also sparks up new friendships and helps some people get out of their comfort zones.
Who won Mr. Neumann?
When it came down to the two finalists, there was a twist. The crowd got a chance to vote someone back in, and they voted for Issa Issaku. They then voted for the winner. This year’s Mr. Neumann is Issa Issaku. He is currently a senior, but although he is leaving, he is leaving with a great memory for everyone to remember.
Going forward to next year, maybe there will be new games and hopefully many new contestants. Everyone must bring their A-game and ready up to compete for the ongoing title! Will an underclassman take the win next year, or will it continue to be an upperclassman? We will also see if Mr. Neumann still remains to be the school’s favorite pep rally!
