Brandon Elarde is a member of Boy Scouts Troop 226 in Naples, Florida. He has gladly been a part of the troop for over ten years. He is currently at the Star Scout Rank of the Boy Scouts which is only two levels below the Eagle Scout Rank. Elarde took the time to share about the activities his troop has done and the volunteer work they are working on.
What do you do in the Scouts?
For most of the time, Elarde goes to the weekly meetings held at the Saint John Evangelical Church, but his troop also does a lot of volunteer work for their community. They also have lots of opportunities to learn and grow such as learning how to camp and live off the natural resources on the land.
What made you want to join Boy Scouts?
Originally Elarde’s parents pushed him to start doing Boy Scouts. After joining, he soon ended up enjoying it because of the many service opportunities that his troop provides for them. He also loves to meet the new people that join his troop.
What is your favorite part of Boy Scouts?
He has two favorite parts of being in the troop. His first favorite is the campouts that his troop does, which are great bonding experiences and allow him to learn more about surviving in the wilderness. His second favorite part is earning the merit badges. His favorite merit badge of all the ones he earned is the “Shotgun Shooting Badge.”
What are you currently doing in the Scouts?
This year, Elarde and the troop are doing volunteer work through the Beverly’s Angels. They are currently working to gather supplies like pajamas and other clothing for children whose families cannot afford them.
What are your plans on becoming an Eagle Scout?
Elarde is still debating whether or not he will continue to climb the ranks to become an Eagle. He did say that if he has enough time to continue, he will try to attain the Eagle rank. If he does continue to become an Eagle he will have to do a project as a requirement. He is thinking about doing his project on a Montessori school that he previously attended, but is still uncertain on his project: “I might help out one of my old schools for my eagle project.”
Elarde is working hard for the community and his troop. We are excited to see his further contributions and wish him the best in his upcoming service projects.
