Where are you from? Tell me a little bit about your hometown.
Olimpia Sardi is originally from Italy. She used to come down to visit Naples, Florida ever since she was 9 years old. Ever since she first began coming to the area with her family she loved it. In fact, she loved it so much that she couldn’t stay away, so she decided to come over and study here at St. John Neumann.
Do you have a big family, and if so, do you miss them?
Sardi is an only child with two dogs, which she says, serve as her siblings. She loves her parents very much and has a very close relationship with them. She also loves her grandparents who coincidently live in the neighborhood that surrounds Neumann. This is ideal for Sardi, because it gives her the perfect home away from home for her first time in a new and overwhelming environment.
Sardi says the environment is a little overwhelming because it’s a new school, all new people, and she’s here all by herself.
Sardi will be staying here in the United States for a year, and leaving in the summer. She says, “I already miss my parents, but it does help that I am staying with my grandparents.”
What is your favorite subject to study in school, and why?
Sardi quickly responded to this question without any thought, saying “Lunch, definitely lunch!” She enjoys talking and meeting new people, although she says that if she could describe herself with one word it would be ‘shy’. Lunch lets her come out of her comfort zone and make new friends that she normally wouldn’t. She also enjoys the pretty landscaping that Neumann offers, with greenery everywhere you look.
How many languages do you speak, and which one is you strongest?
Sardi can speak 2 languages almost fluently. She has perfected her native language, Italian, and is now practicing her English while studying here in the United States. She speaks Italian back home with her parents but they all speak English as well.
Do you enjoy partaking in any special activities?
Back home, Sardi is keen on playing the drums. She says she doesn’t play in the band because she would rather play by herself. She goes on to tell me that she can let loose and just be free when playing them.
Olimpia is so glad that she chose to attend our school. She is already fitting in and is looking forward to her future here at Neumann. She’s excited to be part of the SJN community.
