Led Zeppelin was a rock band formed in 1968. The band was composed of the vocalist Robert Plant, the guitarist, Jimmy Page, the drummer, John Bonham, and the bassist and keyboardist, John Paul Jones. Their band was the predecessor of metal and hard rock. Their style consisted of many different influences, including but not limited to; blues, folk music, and Arab music. They impacted the music industry by starting the genre known as stadium rock. Before signing a deal with Atlantic records, they were known as, “New Yardbirds.”
Jimmy Page was responsible for composing the music, while Robert Plant wrote the lyrics. Their first show as Led Zeppelin was at the University of Surrey in Battersea on October 25, 1968. Their debut album,” Led Zeppelin”, was released in 1969. After they had become successful, their music had been imitated by many other bands including Nirvana and Black Sabbath. They were among the first to experiment with North African and Indian music. Led Zeppelin disbanded in 1980 after Bonhams accidental death. This was also due to the fact that some of the band members wished to pursue other endeavors. While Page was understandably disappointed, the group decided to disband.
Led Zeppelin was an advanced band during its time, and helped tremendously in changing rock music as time continued. They were and are a great inspiration for musicians of the past, present and future, and they will continue to inspire many others as changers of music history.
