The St. John Neumann Powder Puff football was an amazing game. Great performances by the girls that some people are questioning how successful would a female football team be, especially the sophomores which managed to win it all. Beating out the seniors, the favorites to win, one of the best plays came from the sophomore vs junior game. A sophomore caught an interception and then a touchdown ensued from that same play. Unfortunately during the finals Kate Chachere got cut on her upper eye. It wasn’t very severe, but there was a lot of blood. People got scared and called and dialed 911. Who was the bet player? The Powder Puff MVP would have to be Miley Adams. She had a great game as defensive unit and a great offensive talent.
The Powder Puff game has caused some to consider whether or not Neumann should start a female football team. There are plenty of logistical questions for starting such a team, for example no other schools support a female football team. But an interesting question to ask would be how would a female football perform? To try to stat this I asked a couple football players how well they thought the girls would do.
Lucas Desh says, “I think we would do fine, powder puff showed a lot of potential.”
Eugene Quinland says, “I think we would do well but we would be inconsistent.”
The talent is there, all we need is for them to perform. There could be alternatives if not competing with other schools, such as house events of Powder Puff football. We could consider having Powder Puff games throughout the whole year instead of just during homecoming week. There is potentially for something great in Powder Puff. Clearly we have great athletes willing to play, so make them play.
