Sister Kaitlin Trokan has recently joined St. John Neumann as a religion teacher for the juniors. She went from teaching in Slovakia as a lay teacher, to becoming a Salesian sister and finally joining the Neumann family.
How did you discover God’s calling to become a religious sister?
“Through different people and different experiences, God was able to change my mind,” Sr. Kaitlin shares. She says she always knew she had to become a religious sister, but she did not want to become one. As she went through life, her experiences and the people she met left an impact that led her to become the sister that God called her to be.
What made you choose to become a Salesian rather than other religious orders?
When Sr. Kaitlin was working at the Slovakian high school, she had gotten involved with a youth center that had Salesian sisters. It was her first experience with religious sisters and priests. Through working with them she started to think about the call to be a religious sister. It was the only order she knew and “it was the only one that made sense,” so she did not need to look anywhere else.
How did becoming an English teacher lead you to St. John Neumann?
When Sr. Kaitlin was a high school English teacher, before becoming a sister, she knew she loved working with high school students. Through those two years she already knew that Neumann“was an easy fit.”
What is your favorite part about the school’s community?
Sr. Kaitlin’s favorite part is the House Program. She is new to the House Program, but she thinks it is a great way to build community and to build school spirit. She also thinks it is a great way to make the school day more exciting, especially on Wednesdays.
What activities do you like to take part in when you are not busy teaching?
When Sr. Kaitlin is not busy, she loves to spend time with the community and she enjoys reading. When she has the chance to, she tries to swim since she enjoyed being a swimmer in high school.
We are excited to Sr. Kaitlin join our school! She has already made us feel closer by joining in on teaching and sharing her light. We look forward to seeing her determination in our school’s community.
